Stan Godrie (25) saw his contract with cyclo-cross team Crelan – Charles come to an end on 31 December. He will, however, stay with Charles CX team as elite rider without contract until the end of the running cyclo-cross season.
“I have worked very hard to stay with the team as a pro”, he said after his last cross for Crelan – Charles, Sunday in Diegem. “Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. But I’m glad the team has faith in me to complete the cross season in this way. So, I will stay with Charles CX Team until the end of February. They’ve given me a nice opportunity to prove that I still belong on the top level.”
“I’ll finish the current cross season here and will try to show that I’m still good enough to be a pro again. Now it’s a step backwards. The team does what they can, I am happy with that.”
Stan Godrie will first race for the ‘new’ Charles CX Team on 1 January in the GP Sven Nys in Baal, which is part of the DVV Verzekeringen Trofee. Maud Kaptheijns, the only woman at Charles CX Team, will also be at the start.
