Finally: it’s time for the first spring classics! On Saturday we ride the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, on Sunday Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne. Roompot – Charles Cycling Team received a wildcard for the Omloop and will take on the first Belgian classic of the season with Lars Boom.
Also in 2019 the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad starts at the velodrome ‘t Kuipke in the center of Ghent. The official start is a few kilometers away in Merelbeke. From there on it is exactly 200 kms to the finish in Ninove. This year the finish line lies in the center, in the Onderwijslaan. Along the way we’ll get the known obstacles, with the duo Muur – Kapelmuur and Bosberg as last hurdles in the finale.
In total, the riders must pass nine cobbles sections, of which three times the Haaghoek, and thirteen official climbs, of which three times the Leberg. The Bosberg is at only 13 km from the finish line. The last kilometers of the Omloop run in a slightly descending slope towards Ninove.
Michael Boogerd and Nick Nuyens will take place in the team car on Saturday. Seven riders were selected for this spring classic: two Belgians and five Dutchmen. Sjoerd van Ginneken and Stijn Steels did the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad last year. Lars Boom already participated six times. In 2011 he finished in tenth place.
