Elmar Reinders had high hopes for the ‘Ronde van Drenthe’ yesterday. The local rider is in good shape, but was confronted with more than a fair share of bad luck during the race. He eventually managed to finish in 14th place.
After a crash early in the race, Elmar Reinders fought his way back to the front of the race, but a puncture on a crucial moment – right before the final ascent of the Col du VAM – set him back more than a minute and he was forced to chase again. Also Jesper Asselman faced mechanical problems and was dropped from the front of the race, not long after he and Reinders forced the bunch to split and they were both well positioned at the front.
Justin Timmermans, who’s in his first year as a professional rider and also a local, showed himself to the public. He was battling for a place in the top twenty and finished the race in 31st place. Nice work by the youngster!
ROCtv followed in the footsteps of Roelof Timmermans and Bert Reinders, the fathers of Justin and Elmar. Both parents saw motivated sons, but also some bad luck during the race. Watch the video here.
