Circuit Cycliste Sarthe: “Up and down all the time, a very open race”

In between the spring classics, Roompot – Charles Cycling Team is also taking parrt in the four-day stage race Circuit Cycliste Sarthe (2.1) in France. This race is already at it’s 67th year. Sports director Erik Breukink: “It’s a very open race. Every second counts for the GC.”

Where can you follow the Circuit Cycliste de Sarthe? Well, local television station France 3 Pays de la Loire will provide live coverage of all four stages. Click here for more information. You can also follow the race on Twitter with the hashtag #CircuitSarthe and via the official Twitter account of the race organization: @CircuitSarthe. Of course, we’ll also provide daily updates of the race via our own online channels.

Breukink: “For the GC every second counts”

“It’s a race for our riders who are not at their best in the Flemish classics,” tells Erik Breukink. “Like van der Lijke, Lammertink, ecc. They can perform a lot better on this terrain. It’s undulating, with an uphill finish in stage three. Also the last stage is tough. It will go up and down, a very open race.”

What can we expect of our riders? “I hope Maurits Lammertink can do well in the tough stages, Huub Duyn too. Nick van der Lijke has been ill after the Tour of Catalonia, so we’ll have to wait and see how he feels. Normally, this is his preferred terrain too. Lammertink should be our best guy this week.”

“The GC? A possibility! Last year, Oscar Riesebeek finished 7th in the final classification. It’s a matter of seconds that you have to win here and there. There is no time trial, so the riders will stay close to each other in the GC. Every second counts. The third stage, with the uphill finish, will be a good indicator. That one is decisive for the GC. You’ll have to finish in the top ten there.”
