Pieter Weeniing finished tenth overall in the Baloise Belgium Tour. Also Senne Leysen did very well with a 21st place in the GC. This week Roompot – Charles will ride the ZLM Tour, already the third stage race in June.
After the stunning solo victory of Jan-Willem van Schip in the opening stage, another top stage result wasn’t in the cards for the Roompot – Charles riders. How could they have matched that win? However, Pieter Weening did well in the tougher stages, the one to Zottegem (17th) and the queen stage in the Ardennes on Saturday (14th). It made him move up in the GC to tenth. The final, flat stage didn’t change that anymore.
Also Senne Leysen did well throughout the week, he performed very consistently and was of great help for Weening in the Ardennes stage. He finished 25th in the individual time trial on Friday after he had some bad luck when he slipped his chain, lost valuable seconds and missed out on a possible top ten finish. Nevertheless, his final position in the GC is a sign of his excellent form.
This week, Roompot – Charles will be at the start of the ZLM Tour, already the third stage race in June for our riders. Weening and Leysen get some days of and will ride some one-day races instead, like Dwars door het Hageland. More on the ZLM Tour on this page.
