In the past weekend three Belgian one-day races were scheduled for Roompot – Charles Cycling Team: Duracell Dwars door het Hageland, the Heistse Pijl and the Elfstedenronde in Bruges. We achieved three top 10 finishes and Jan-Willem van Schip went on the attack several times.
After a dusty edition of Duracell Dwars door het Hageland, with 39 kms of off-road sections, Jan-Willem van Schip finished seventh. The team showed it’s combative spirit throughout the day and was well represented at the front of the race.
On Saturday our riders rode the Heistse Pijl, a 194 km flat race with seven local laps around the city of Heist-op-den-Berg. In the final lap, van Schip was only a handful of seconds behind the race leaders. He managed to make the junction at the very end and finished 8th. Mathias De Witte sprinted to 15th.
The Elfstedenronde in Bruges was a home race for De Witte. He would eventually finish 20th. The race was decided in a sprint with Jesper Asselman bagging an excellent top ten finish! He crossed the finish line in ninth place. Once again, van Schip went on the attack. He seems ready for the European Games in Minsk, where he’ll ride on the track again.
