It’s been a good week for the Roompot-Charles riders in the ZLM Tour. They gathered four top ten finishes and Maurits Lammertink finished sixth overall. Furthermore, Elmar Reinders, Justin Timmermans and Huub Duyn showed their orange and black jersey in the breakaway.

After a mediocre prologue and first stage, the Roompot-Charles riders did a lot better in the remaining stages of the ZLM Tour. Elmar Reinders did what he does best: go on the attack. He was in the breakaway in two stages. In the final stage to Tilburg he was only caught a few kilometers before the finish line. Justin Timmermans also spent the Friday stage in the breakaway.

The ZLM Tour is a predominantly flat stage race, so most stages were decided in a bunch sprint. Michael Van Staeyen finished eighth twice. Unfortunately, Boy van Poppel was struggling with a stomach ache and had to abandon the race on Saturday. The Saturday stage was an undulating one over the hills we know from the Amstel Gold Race, Maurits Lammertink and Huub Duyn’s preferred terrain. Both did great and were found at the front of the race throughout the stage. Eventually Lammertink finished fourth, Duyn fifth. Maurits also finished sixth in the GC.
