The 53rd edition of the Grand Prix Pino Cerami was held in Wallonia. The organisation decided to shorten the race by 45 km due to the extreme heat. On the way the riders tried to cool down with ice bags and liters of water.

The ascending finishing line caused a bunch sprint after 160 km. Michael Van Staeyen finished in 6th place. Lars Boom also joined the peloton after a long back injury.

“The heat is not a problem for me”, he says, “but today we had to deal with extremes. The ice cube bags we received along the way came as a gift from heaven. I am very satisfied with my 6th place, although there might have been something more in it.”
