Mathias De Witte has suffered a massive blow. The Roompot-Charles rider crashed downhill on Saturday’s stage in the Adriatica Ionica Race and hit the guard rail with his ankle. He was transferred to the hospital in Gorizia and immediately underwent surgery. His left ankle is broken as well as his nose.
Mathias now has to stay in Italy for about a week due to the risk of infection. A second operation will follow in Belgium. In the meantime, his parents traveled to Italy to support him. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Unfortunately also Justin Timmermans suffered an injury. In the opening stage of the Tour de Wallonie he was involved in a crash twice, after which he was forced to abandon the race. Justin sustained a torn intercostal muscle and some contusions.
