Oscar Riesebeek came in fourth on Sunday in the Memorial Rik Van Steenbergen, the final race of the Bingoal Cycling Cup. Riesebeek is also fourth in the final classification of this serires of Belgian one-day races.
Early in the race a group of thirteen riders broke away from the pack, including Oscar Riesebeek. Behind them, the peloton split in different parts. The thirteen built up a lead of a few minutes, a lead that the pursuing groups wouldn’t be able to close.
The front group was gradually reduced to ultimately four riders, with still Riesebeek. Quite remarkable, since the man from Tiel was confronted with a flat tire and had to change bikes. As a result, he lacked that extra bit of energy in the final kilometer to battle for the win. It still was a strong effort from Riesebeek, who also finished fourth in the final classification of the Bingoal Cycling Cup thanks to his good performances in this series.
Back to the race: Stijn Steels sprinted to sixth, Huub Duyn came in eleventh. Michael Van Staeyen is sixth in the Bingoal Cycling Cup standings, also known as the Belgian Cup. The final standings of the #BCC19 can be found on this page.
